Our vines are located on the 3rd terraces of the appellation (alt.200m). Vines are facing due south from sunrise to sunset.
Wines from our estate are a combination of powerful and fineness given by the soils mostly clayey-siliceous, with pebbles.
Our analysis of our terroirs allowed us to find similarities between pieces of plots. It is therefore in this philosophy that we created our cuvées: from certain islets, assembled between them. A detailed reading of our terroirs which represents the diversity of our 3rd terrace soils
To enhance the quality of our wines and to obtain the most tasteful expression of our terroirs, but also by personal conviction, we soon oriented our activity towards organic farming. First we focused on the soils by sewing cover grass between the rows of the vines. This ancestral procedure lowers the influence of climate conditions on plant growth, as the grass competes the vines, forcing them to root deeper. Furthermore, we completely banished the application of chemical herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers for ecological and environmental reasons. We respect nature and the natural cycles, so our fruits may benefit from excellent solar radiation and optimal ripening: Leaf-stripping of the canopy facing sunrise in July, leaf-stripping of the canopy facing sunset in August. Adding perfect yield control, we achieved organic certification for the entire estate, with our first organic wines certified in 2012.
The climate we have in Cahors is mostly oceanic with some Mediterranean influences. Furthermore, the topography and the influences from the river Lot create a temperate micro-climate. In addition, we experienced really sunny and warm late autumn, with hot winds coming from Spain. Those conditions are very successful for Malbec maturity.
We have many different grape varieties in our estate: Malbec, distinctive of Cahors area, Chardonnay, Viognier, Loin de l’Oeil, Vermentino for our Monplaisir Blanc, and Cabernet Franc and Merlot for our Monplaisir Rosé.
Cabernet Franc and Merlot have been planted over time and allow us to develop our Monplaisir Rosé. The very young Syrahs complete this diversity of grape varieties.
Expressive and complex, the Malbec get its richness in our soils and thanks to the micro-climate, is able to reach excellent ripeness. From blackcurrant, to liquorice and ripen cherries, this grape variety allows us to make black wines full of richness and suppleness.
Every single vintage, we are doing our best to improve the quality of our wines.
